How does Myst work?
The odour absorbing properties of Myst depend on a chemical binding between inorganic salt and low molecular weight organic compounds containing the osmogene functional groups such as amino nitrogen and mercapto sulphur. Myst has no effect on carbonylic groups such as aldehydes and ketones (e.g. typical perfume/fragrance components).
In molecular form, the active ingredient is fully encapsulated within the molecule and is unable to complex. When placed in an aqueous environment, the molecule is activated, opening to expose the active ingredient. This activation makes the active ingredient freely accessible to complex with the malodour molecules. Each active molecule may complex with one or more malodour molecules depending on the size and shape of that molecule.
Once the complex is formed, it is a stable complex and will not release the malodour molecule even when the substrate dries. The mode of the action is similar to and can be compared to the iron binding and transport of oxygen in hemoglobin. The active ingredient acts as a catalyst to bind the odour, complexing it with the fatty acid chains.

Myst removes unpleasant smelling substances such as smoke, acid, mercaptane, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and amines from the ambient air or prevent their emission into the environment.

Leading Fabric Freshener
Temporarily masks unpleasant smelling substances from the ambient air.
- Perfume is released slowly from the cavity of active ingredient where malodour is captured
- Theoretically the maladour can be embedded in the cavity by replacement of the fragrance, but the cavity of the active is filled with perfume and other ingredients.
- Everything inside the cavity will disappear after a certain time, also the maladour.
- Just the ingredients from the cavity disappear slowly, then due to natural equilibrium the maladour penetration shall also be slow.
- Temporary effect. When all the fragrances are evaporated no effectiveness is left.
- Reactivating of the active ingredient (cyclodextrine) is not possible.
- High temperatures will crack the molecule and black colour remains.
- Interaction with perfume ingredients is needed.
